Confession: I’ve never cared much for politics. I don’t even like to identify myself as belonging to a certain party. The truth is, there are bits and pieces of both I agree with. And bits and pieces I disagree with.
I do believe in voting and think it is a privilege to have a say in who is elected. There are still countries around the world where “democracy” is considered a bad word. The freedom we have in the good ole’ US of A is a gift.
What little time I’ve spent on social media lately has been overrun with political thoughts, articles, claims to abandon the US if so & so is elected, etc. Again-we have the freedom of opinion and can say what we think without endangering our lives.
But there’s a theme in what I’m seeing/reading…and it’s fear.
I have questions and concerns of my own. And the two people I would have chosen as our next President aren’t even running anymore. Now, it seems like our choices are to pick the lesser of the evils.
After reading a friend’s post the other day, I put my phone down and went about my business in the kitchen. I started thinking about where our country might be headed.
The unknown is scary and the what-if’s can be terrifying. (This of course relates to more than the state of the union.)
As I stood in front of my sink, this verse came to mind:
Isaiah 9:6 NIV
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Admittedly my first thought was, “That’s a Christmas verse.” But it was the phrase “And the government will be on his shoulders,” that stuck out to me.
I’m a word-nerd, so bear with me while I work this out “on paper.”
The Hebrew word for government is misrah, meaning “rule, or dominion.” Interestingly enough, this translation only occurs in this verse and the in one following. (biblehub.com)
So what does this mean? It’s ok if you’re asking this question, because I’m asking it too.
To rule means “the exercise of authority or control.” Dominion means “the power to rule.” (merriam-webster.com)
Our King Jesus is just that…King. He’s the ruler of Heaven and the ruler of earth. I wonder if we’ve forgotten the nature of His authority? Do we believe He is indeed in control? Of everything?
My friends, even in the worst case scenario, He is still sovereign. He already knows who will sit behind that big desk in the oval office. And whoever it is, I have to believe they are part of His ultimate plan.
Because everything is working together for His return. And He IS coming…
Now, does this negate our role as citizens to be involved in the whole electoral process? Hardly. But, no matter what happens, our hearts and minds can rest.
We rest because we serve the Lord of lords. The King of kings.
The President of presidents.

Amen! I’m sick and tired of how many people in the church are acting like the world will end if candidate X wins. Jesus is sovereign regardless. And nothing can happen without him signing off on it. I think the real problem is that we are seeing many believers with their hearts mixed in with a sense of control in the world that should be reserved to faith in Christ. Which is sad.

“Nothing can happen without him signing off on it.” Yes. Yes. And yes.

Reblogged this on With Love …. Josephine xx and commented:
I’m not American so I have very little vested interested with the politics in that country, apart from the fact that I will hear of the subject from my Sociologist and Economist husband. But this post written by a dear friend of mine stole my attention. And now, I have a vested interest with who’s running for Presidency for the UNIVERSE.

I’m so thankful that our God IS in control…regardless of who serves as leader of this nation. All men/women are terribly flawed (I’m at the top of that list!)…to think that the fate of our world lies in the hands of humans is terrifying, but we have confidence in God’s abilities and put our hope and trust in HIM, thereby giving us a peace that unfortunately the “world” doesn’t have. That’s why we’re messengers for him, bringing that peace (hope and trust) to those who are in need. Our world is in a terrible state but to me that brings comfort…Come Lord Jesus come…
